AutoCAD for iPad, iPod and iPhone - AutoCAD WS

CAD in the cloud has been around for some time and this fall it's time for Project Butterfly as a web and mobile application that will be called AutoCAD WS.

“Autodesk also announced the AutoCAD WS mobile application, a new free* app soon to be available through Apple's App Store that will extend AutoCAD to Apple's iOS. The AutoCAD WS mobile application will enable AutoCAD users to edit and share AutoCAD files on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch so they can have real-time collaboration even while on the go.

AutoCAD for Mac will also be offered free* to students and educators through the Autodesk Education Community, where more than 25 Autodesk software products are available for download to inspire learning and help prepare students for successful careers. Autodesk recognizes the popularity of the Mac platform among students and is providing AutoCAD for Mac so they can build needed skills by having access to the same software that design professionals use every day.” - Press release

Update: WS in AutoCAD WS doesn't stand for anything.. sorta like the XP in Windows… it's a designation that it is a web enabled product.

After the iPhone version, Digital Legends Entertainment and Indiagames Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior come for the Samsung Wave. Available for free download, the game makes us fight our way to being the best.

There are five different modes to play – Story, Arcade, Time Attack, Versus and Survival – the first of all (Story, or History) by Bruce guiding with 5 different chapters of fighting. They let you start with some basic skills, then work on them while we beat several enemies in various tournaments and challenges. Moreover, one can play with four unique roughhousing with a total of 10 wrestlers (in other modes do not have to play with Bruce mandatory). Google Voice apps work -- installed on Mac, HP Desktop, and iPhone 4 - Cleveland home technology | Examiner.com

Google's new Voice and Call Phones applications will challenge major telecommunications carriers' pricing models and undoubtedly will change the way people buy telecommunications services in the future. Google is offering free long distance, free voice mail, and free call forwarding to anyone in the US with a computer and a phone.

And the products work. I've installed Google's new Voice or "Call phones" app on three devices: a PC with Windows 7, an iPhone 4, and a MacBook Pro. It was easy to install on the two computers and a little trickier on the iPhone.

Regarding installing on the mobile -- note that I had to allow the phone to accept cookies, and had to set up my cell number in Google Voice on the PC before it would work on the iPhone. See recent how-to article for PC installation guide.

The Google app lets me make calls from the computers to any telephone without requiring the person at the other end to have Google software.

Google Voice also keeps a log of the calls, offers easily accessible voice mail, and handles call forwarding, all visible from either computer. I haven't usedGoogle successfully to make a call from the iPhone, but the iPhone already has all these features, whereas the computers didn't, before.

Play DivX, Xvid and mkv on your Android with arcMedia

When I got the Nexus One, I was looking for an application that would play video files with the container “avi” (using DivX or Xvid) and, along with HD Matroska, are the most common today. Long ago I have not seen in the mobile series, but it never hurts for a trip or something like that.

In its day I found nothing, and the most widely passed through the recoding of the videos, a real pain in the ass. When it was necessary due to limited power because there was nothing (with my N73, for example), but right now, today's phones should be able to play up to 720p, and of course SD videos without moving a hair.

After a while there was some streaming solutions, and even some standalone software, although fraught with problems, bugs, and advertising even during video playback. The other day, by chance, I found an application that finally solves this problem: arcMedia. The application, based on FFmpeg, supports the following formats:

• Video containers: asf, avi, mkv, mov, mp4, rmvb, wmv.
• Audio containers: mp3, ogg, wav, wma.
• Codecs: aac, ac3, divx, flv4, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, PCM, RealVideo, Vorbis, xvid.

It also supports subtitles (I tried srt format only) and is completely free (although not free). It is still an early beta, is not widespread, and all decoding is done by software, so the return depends on the raw power of the CPU. In my Nexus One, video SD (typical DVDrip / HDRip) are played perfectly, although a mkv to 720p will be pulled. True, in a chapter of a series, shows virtually no difference between SD and 720p, given the screen size (800 x 480, 480p or so).

Let's wait and see how the application, and if your developers do not get carried away by the “dark side” of putting advertising everywhere.
