Building on the success of its popular iPhone application launched last fall, the National Film Board of Canada has released a native iPad version. NFB Films for iPad allows users to enjoy over 1,000 free NFB documentaries, animated shorts and trailers streamed over either Wi-Fi or 3G. The app also includes a selection of films in 3-D and high-definition as well as a dedicated kids' channel containing fun and educational content for children. In addition to online streaming, users can download and store films for offline viewing for up to 48 hours. The app provides the same basic features as its iPhone counterpart but has been optimized for the iPad not only for higher-resolution video support but also includes improved navigation controls and a split-screen view that allows users to browse other NFB content while viewing a film. NFB Films for iPad is available from the App Store as a free download and includes access to all of the National Film Board's iPad-ready content at no charge.

Apple iPhone owners are downloading almost twice as many paid applications as Google Android users, according to data from Google's mobile ad company AdMob. AdMob included this chart in its monthly mobile stats report.
AdMob doesn't provide any explanation for this phenomenon, so here are our guesses:
iTunes has a smooth purchasing/payment process. Google's marketplace might not be as good.
iTunes does a good job of highlighting popular paid apps. Android isn't as good at that.
There are probably more paid apps on a relative basis for iPhone than Android.
The iPhone is positioned as a premium phone. Verizon offers some Android phones for free, same with T-Mobile. If you get your phone for free, you might be less willing to spend for applications. (Or be the type of users who buys paid apps.)
Hi all. Well, I'm looking to write some applications for my windows mobile 6 phone. I did some searching on microsoft to see if you could develop applications in one of the visual studio express additions, but unfortunately, you can't. So my question, is there a free language I could use to develop applications? I would prefer python, mainly because that is the language I'm most familiar with, but a google search didn't turn up anything. Another related question, does the mobile speak screen reader have a scripting language? If so, is there a tutorial on how to use it?

IMDb, the definitive database for all-things movies, announced on Wednesday that it has finally brought its mobile application to Android OS.
According to the company, the free app includes access to information on more than 1.5 million movie and television shows. Users can also access content related to the more than 3.2 million celebrities and crew members involved in the entertainment business.
But the IMDb app is more than just information-based. The program includes access to movie trailers, user reviews, and even critics' reviews of different movies and shows. Users can also see local movie show times in their area.
IMDb's app joins a growing number of highly-touted iPhone apps that are making their way to Android. Recently, Amazon announced that its e-reader Kindle app is finally available to Android owners.
