Mapple 3Di 3D Navigational Mapping For The Apple iPhone

Mapple Mobile has launched a new Apple iPhone application within South Korea. The app, which is called Mapple 3Di is a full 3D navigational map tool that uses augmented reality to offer motorists with geographical information.

Information about Mapple 3Di is limited at this time, but we can confirm that the app will allow mobile users to share real time information and that periodic updates scheduled in 2 week intervals will also be performed by the parent company.

Mapple 3Di will retail for $54.99 USD.

Textie.me - Send Text Messages At No Cost

Textie is a new application that will have iPhone and iPod users coming back for more, mainly because it lets them do for free something that has always been a paid service: sending out text messages.

This is accomplished by installing an app that becomes tied to your email address, and that email address is what is being used as the basis of the communication between you and other people. You can send them both messages and images (which are attached in an elegant way), and they will go straight into their Textie accounts. And if they arent users of Textie, the will get them as a SMS.

So, the key to Texties appeal lies in the way something free such as email is used as a sort of replacement for something paid like text messages.

Reliance Joins Hands with GetJar to create an App Store

Reliance has got into an strategic alliance with with GetJar, the popular mobile application store.

Under this alliance, all 100 Million Reliance subscribers gets to access all the 65,000 free apps present at GetJar.

This will be carried out via a special GetJar apps store on Reliance's premier VAS Platform, R-World. And the App Store will contains a various genres of applications ranging from games, social networking, sports, entertainment and productivity applications.

There will be no charges on the application download and its use, however there will be a data charge of 50 paise/MB from Reliance.

Twitter Says: These Are Not the Mobile Ad Units You're Looking For

The new version of Tweetie, the iPhone Twitter application acquired this month by Twitter Inc., says it contains a surprise. What's the surprise? When you pull down the stream of Tweets to refresh, a slot machine appears.

The slot machine's wheels spin, then stop. Some percentage of the time you're rewarded with a little graphic telling you that Tweetie will soon be known as Twitter for iPhone (congrats to you!). This sure looks like the future home of advertising on Twitter for iPhone, doesn't it? Twitter's Sean Garrett says that's not the case, "The slot machine thing is just a fun way to get the word out about the upcoming change from Tweetie to Twitter." It sure looks like prime real estate, though.

Now, there may not be ads up there in the future, but offers, promotions, paid inspirational haiku - something? That placement just seems too valuable for the company to let it sit there empty. Just as ads are coming to Twitter (relatively unobtrusive sponsored Tweets at the top of search results) so too can we imagine the free iPhone app will have ads. This seems like as good a place as any to put them. It's an easy assumption to make: tech investor Dave McClure freaked out on Twitter today calling them ad units, and the thought certainly crossed our minds when we saw them yesterday. Time will tell...

A developer with chart-topping free games for both the iPhone and iPad has shared download figures for each platform, revealing his iPad application was downloaded about 5 percent as much as a comparable game available for the much larger audience of the iPhone and iPod touch.

Michael Buford of Headlight Software Inc. updated his personal blog on Friday to share download figures for two free applications from the company Knife Dancing for the iPhone and Heads Up: Hold'em HD for the iPad. Knife Dancing was the No. 1 free iPhone game in February, with about 165,000 downloads in a single day, while Heads Up became the No. 1 iPad game on Thursday, with 8,300 downloads in one day.

Textie for iPhone Sends Free Text Messages - Texting - Lifehacker

Textie is a free iPhone application that sends free text messages to email addresses, most cellphones, and other Textie users. Textie doesn't dip into your monthly messaging plan, so it's basically unlimited texting.

While it may be free on your end, it may not be for your recipient, especially if you are texting to a mobile number. There's also support for push notification and photos. The interface is reminiscent of the iPhone's own messaging app, so it's easy and quick to understand how the app functions.

Textie doesn't work well with T-Mobile (it really doesn't), and has no support for international numbers or Google Voice, which is a shame, really. Textie is a free app for iPhone only. It costs $2 to remove the ads.

“So according to those numbers, for a free game the iPad app store is about 5% as big as the iPhone app store on the day before the 3G launch…” he said. “And unlike the iPhone, where the #1 game is usually the #1 app–on the iPad it only got us to #4.”
